US Unemployment Claimants Up Another 170,000
The US Labor Department announced today that new jobless claims for the week exceeded 170,000 for the week ending Feb 7th, 2009 bringing the total number of Americans receiving unemployment benefits to 4.99 million compared to 2.77 million for this time last year. Also, an additional 1.5 million are receiving special benefits under an extended unemployment compensation program approved by Congress last year. More
