Unemployment in the Eurozone rose to 10 percent in December, the highest rate since the region was first established in 1999 when the single Euro currency was introduced. The total number of unemployed grew to more than 23 million people.
Employment levels vary by country with some smaller member-states enduring much greater unemployment than the larger economies such as Germany and France. Spain for instance, is currently struggling with a 19.5 percent unemployment rate and this contracts sharply with the Netherlands where unemployment is a minuscule 4 percent.
